Morrow Audio 300B1S Monoblocks

Morrow Audio 300B1S Reference

"When we listen to human voice, it is the voice of a live singer. You can “see” the singer’s throat is moving. The Steinway sounds of the Steinway. You can feel the strings of the violin and guitar are vibrating. The overall sound is very real and you would feel you are in the concert hall, not listening to electronics."

300B SET (single ended triode) design. SET's are noted for their natural sound, retaining more of the harmonic structure than is possible with push pull designs, which cancel out these harmonics. The trade off is lower power output. If your speakers are high efficient, SET's are the way to go for the best and most realistic sound presentation.

These specialty Morrow Audio 300B1S amplifiers are the best we have to offer, they are reference class and are hand made by Mike Morrow himself. You receive in these amplifiers the best sounding parts in the world including inter-stage transformer technology. The unique split chassis design uses a separate chassis for the power supply and amplifying circuits. Please allow 4 to 8 weeks build time. You will be kept updated as the build progresses.

Product Design

I know! 6 to 8 week wait? Audiophiles want it now! These things are meticulously hand made to order, like a fine work of art...for the ears! The thing you must realize is that we are talking about the best 300B amplifier in the world. This is one that you will never sell, one that you will have for a lifetime (and it is designed so to keep working for a lifetime).

"If you can be patient and wait the 8 weeks or so that it takes Mike Morrow to build these beauties, you will have amplifiers that you will keep a lifetime. They are that good!"

By nature audiophiles buy something to only later sell it. This is a keeper! Once you hear it, you will never sell it. You will keep it for the rest of your life! So, considering all the time you waste, searching for the perfect amplifier, 6 to 8 weeks is not a long wait for one that you will keep. Consider it carefully... Resist the impulse to buy something you can have now. You will eventually end up with a Morrow Audio. This time, end the search...forever!

One thing noted by our customers is that the sound of the Morrow Audio amplifiers are unlike any other 300B SET that they have ever heard or experienced. 300B SET's are known to have slow bass, rolled off highs, slight hum and noise, but yet a wonderful presence. The Morrow Audio SET's, due to the design, parts selection and wiring methods of Mike Morrow, exhibit fast bass, extended highs and a silence never before known in the 300B SET world. One customer said that it was like listening to a powerful push pull amplifier yet with the presence and realness that 300B's are known for.

In this reference pair we separated the power supply and amplifier circuits into two separate chassis, along with other improvements and upgrades over the 300B1 monoblocks. These are attached together by a removable cable. The benefits are lower noise and vibration effecting the amplifier circuits due to the power supply components being on the same chassis. There are two chassis for each channel.

Best Sounding Parts

The 300B1S Monoblocks incorporate one of the best output transformers available (Electra-Print) as well as Teflon V-Cap capacitors. The V-Cap is the best  sounding capacitor in the world. There are 4 V-Caps in each monoblock. They are used in the cathode, bias and power supply circuits.

A high quality Electra-Print  interstage transformer is used to couple the 6SN7 to the 300B. There are no capacitors in the signal path.

ASC oil capacitors are used in the power supply, cathode and bias positions, yielding a smoother and more natural sound.

Other components incorporated in the design are ceramic tube sockets, oil power supply capacitors, Electra-Print output transformers, point-to-point wiring, teflon V-Cap capacitors, and Tantalum, Riken and Dale resistors (All signal passing resistors are Tantalum). Wiring is solid silver and silver coated copper with Teflon insulation.

"The image is sharp, pinpoint and in focus that you could expect only from very expensive solid state Amp."

The Sound

The sound is very fast and musical, non-electronic and natural sounding with a deep, layered soundstage, along with a razor sharp 3-D image. I am amazed at how real things sound, breathtakingly 3D. Singers seem to be in the room. The soundstage is so huge that it seem like you are listening to surround sound, with images floating behind, in front of and outside the speakers. The reason is the quality of parts chosen and the simple design, which allow every subtlety to come through, cueing the brain with locations of the instruments and singers.  Bass is tight and accurate, highs are extended and sweet. Quiet Design

AC filament  supply on the 6SN7 and DC supply on the 300B insures a very quiet amplifier with a very low noise floor...all the details and subtleties of the music come through. Hum and noise is a low .001 mv. Horns, Lowthers and other high efficiency speakers are dead quiet!

Differences Over the Standard 300B1:

The 300B1S Reference has the following benefits over the 300B1...

1. Split Chassis Design. Separating the power supply and amplifier chassis results in a quieter amplifier.

2. Oil cathode and bias capacitors are used verses Solen and Black Gate resulting in a more natural sound.

3. Interstage transformer is used instead of the standard coupling capacitor. More harmonic structure of the sound is retained.

What You Receive In The 300B1S Reference:

1. Hand built to order by Mike Morrow himself, please allow 4 to 8 weeks for build time.

2. High quality Electra-Print interstage transformer is located between the 6SN7 plate and 300B grid. There are no capacitors in the signal path!

3. Point to point wiring...NO CIRCUIT BOARDS which degrade the sound!

4. Black top with "Bombay Mahogany" stained base and solid Granite face.

5. V-Cap, Teflon capacitors used in the cathode circuits.

6. Oil filled power supply capacitors. No Electrolytic's in the power supply! Much better highs are obtained...more realistic sound presentation.

7. Custom Electra-Print output transformers.

8. Solid silver 99.99% pure signal path wiring, cloth covered. All other wiring is high grade with Teflon insulation.

9. Audio Note Silver input jacks.

10. Audio Note Silver output binding post.

11. Solen cathode capacitors.

12. Tantalum, Riken and Dale resistors. All signal passing resistors are Tantalum.

13. Tubes included...300B, 6SN7 and 5R4.

14. High quality ceramic tube sockets.

15. Two switch turn on, extending the life of the 300B output tube.

15. Fuse protected.

16. 1 year warranty.

"The sound is sweet and warm and beautiful, that you could only expect from very expensive tube Amp. The harmonic and “air” is excellent and the overall balance is superb."
