___ Step 1:
Make sure that your kit contains the following:

  • Two balanced male connectors
  • Two balanced female connectors
  • Black heat shrink pieces
  • Silver solder
  • Lengths of wire, bundled into two sets of six

Contents of your kit. (Silver solder not shown)

___ Step 2:
You may have received different colored wire in your kit other than what is shown in these instructions. Just be consistent with the colors you have as you follow the directions, substituting the colors you have for the colors in the manual. This might sound confusing but the proceeding instructions and photos will make it very clear as to what you need to do.

You will find in your kit two bundles of wires. Each one has 6 cables that are held together with a piece of heat shrink attached on one end. Add some of the other black heat shrink pieces in your kit every 6 inches from the one that is already there. As you do each one, shrink it down with your heat gun as shown below. You will do this till you reach the end of the cable, leaving about 2 inches from the end. You can add a piece of heat shrink if needed.

Space the heat shrink 6 inches apart till you reach the end of the cable.

___ Step 3:
Take a look now at one end of the cable you just made. You will notice that there are 6 of a twisted pair of wires. Untwist the wires about an inch or so down as shown below...

Twisted wires untwisted about an inch or so down.

___ Step 4:
You will now need to strip the insulation off the wires you have separated. We want to strip about 1/4 inch off each one. You can use a box knife, hobby knife, wire stripper or even your soldering iron to melt the insulation and then pull it off.

When using a knife, score around the wire and then pull off the insulation. It might take you a few tries. Don't fret if you break the wire, loosing an inch or so off your cable. Simply try again till you are able to do it correctly. Make sure the ends are the same length once completed.

Wire ends stripped off about 1/4 of an inch.

___ Step 5:
Notice the colors of the wires...Gray, Green, Brown and Black. Twist together and solder the gray and black wires as shown... Then join together and solder the green wires.... Then join together and solder the brown wires.

Brown wires joined and soldered together.

___ Step 6:
Feed the wires through the end body of the male connector as shown below...

___ Step 7:
Looking at the solder end of the male connector, you will notice some numbers. We will now solder the brown wires to pin 3, the green wires to pin 2 and the black/gray wires to pin 1 as shown below.

Notice the numbers by the pins...1,2 and 3.

Solder the brown wires to pin 3, the green wires
to pin 2 and the black/gray wires to pin 1 as shown above.

___ Step 8:
Arrange everything for the male XLR connector as shown below. This is how they all come together. First bring the male connector up into the outer body, notice that there is a key so that it will go in properly, all lined up. Next, bring in the inner body cover and finally screw on the rear housing.

___ Step 9:
Do the same steps for the female end of your cable. TAKE NOTE!! When soldering on the wires, solder the brown wires to pin 3, the green wires to pin 2 and the black/gray wires to pin 1 as you did on the male connector, BUT NOTICE THAT PINS 1 AND 2 ARE REVERSED IN LOCATION ON THE CONNECTOR!! Maintain the color of the wire to it's pin number for that wire.

See below an exploded view of how the female connector pieces all come together...

___ Step 10:
Do all of the above steps for the remaining channel and you are all done!
